Fola’s Story: Episode 5

May 4, 2020

Episode 5

“Sis, I barely have time, I want to tell you everything, you must have heard that Engr Badmus isn’t my father and that’s true, I’m risking it all to tell you this story. My father…”, the call went blurry and I couldn’t hear Folake anymore, what is this madness happening and of all times now? I checked my mobile data and turns out I was out of subscription from checking all those notifications. I immediately recharged from my mobile app and called Folake back, she picked but this time she told me to forget it and she “wasn’t in the mood to talk anymore”. I could hear a man’s voice in the background and I prayed that it wasn’t who I thought it was. “Sis, are you okay? You know I could help arrange your coming back home”, who was I even lying to, my job wasn’t paying me enough to book a free flight for Folake. “Don’t worry girl, I’m happy here, Chris is my home, right babe?”, she said with a sniffle. Chris was back and I know Folake was trying not to get on his bad books. I needed to understand what was happening but before then, I decided to do a background check on Engr Badmus. There was nothing on the news about him except a few political allegations, nothing beyond what everyone in the country is being accused of, money laundering, fund embezzlement and then the one I was looking for, a family feud but there were no details on it.

This wasn’t the kind of life I wanted as my phone kept on buzzing. There was a new tweet that had me mentioned in it. It was a picture, the network wasn’t being fair to me but the caption said “when bitches don’t get what you have, they spread rumors”. I ignored it because I had no business with anyone and name calling. Probably because of how viral the Chris and Folake video went, someone must have tagged me to chase clout. I decided to go for a run around my estate to clear my head. I needed to be blank before I figure what to do to save Folake.

“Aunty Sade, how are you? Sorry about that man that day, we wanted to chase him away but the police kept invading”, this was why Bola was my favorite, in some way he always had my back like a kid brother would. I talked with him for a few minutes convincing him that it was just a mere misunderstanding. I continued my run and went back home to shower. “What are these endless notifications abeg, did I steal money somewhere abi someone has uploaded my nudes”, it was the first time I laughed between the last two days, I unlocked my phone while getting water from the fridge, the picture I saw on Twitter made me drop the water bottle. “Is Folake mad? Is she possessed? Is it me Folake is referring to as “bitch”, ah oluwa”, I was boiling and raging inside as I stared at a picture of Chris and Folake, it was one of those pictures she puts up that always gave me the irk. I was very angry that night, I tried calling Folake she wouldn’t pick and then I spoke to my stepbrother for a bit just to calm my nerves.

I had other serious issues to focus on concerning work. I had been so involved in Folake’s life that I forgot I had a promotion I was going for at the office. I concluded that night that Folake was one of those girls who even after getting beaten by a man, they cover for him and keep up the relationship. I was not surprised, she had always been easily manipulated and this was no news to me. I brought out my laptop to complete the spreadsheet I was working on, i drifted off to viewing pictures from a gallery I had tagged “beyond best friends”. It was at that point that I could see it clearly and understand why Folake looked the happiest outside and was always scared when it was time to go back home. Two pictures of her in the family portrait and I had my mystery solved….

I’m grateful that you released two episodes at once… Maybe I’m beginning to enjoy this suspense you’re putting me through, or maybe I for like make you release three episodes at once…
I really want to know what’s up with Folake.

  3. Irene Owums says:

    Amazing stuff.
Thank God you gave us 2 episodes.
Please let us find out the mystery.
To be honest, Sade is a good friend. Someone like me would have left folake to her doom. She doesn’t seem like someone who wants to live or escape whatever she’s going through no matter the luxury there.
Is it when she dies, she’ll now be happy?.
