FEATURED FUTURE: YVONNE OGWULU
I remember seeing “Tech Girl Magic” on a laptop…
Hey faves! It’s another amazing blogshow, this one I’d tag as “SPECIAL EDITION” because it’s my birth month and I promised to give the best this month (I’ve been giving the best since day one, no one can even argue). On the show today, I have one of the most needed people, I’m sure his number is on the speed dial of every Nigerian artiste. Without further hype, let’s drop the magic confetti and have ourselves an amazing show!
WNG: Let’s get to know you?
StyledbyReus: My Name Is Adedeji Riliwan Bamidele popularly known as STYLEDBYREUS. I’m a Creative Fashion Stylist, Image Consultant & a Talent Manager based in Lagos.
WNG: What inspires you the most?
StyledbyReus: My family & my community (hood). A better life for people around me is really what keeps me going.
WNG: We all do this for us and our people, totally relate. Favorite thing about your styling sessions?
StyledbyReus: I think it’s the creative process, it makes me learn more whenever I get a job, I’m always trying to do the best, like something no one has seen before. I’m always learning new things about my craft which is fun for me. I love going through those stuff back to back cos it makes me a better person, the creative process.
WNG: Do these gigs come to you or you go to them?
StyledbyReus: Honestly speaking, I don’t think I reach out to anyone, the kind of industry we are in, if you’re not known, no one comes to you. I started up with my own personal clothes. My male friends that were into music. It was a very long journey , I once sent a mail to a video director for me to help him style his video. That was the only time I’ve reached out but all the things I’ve been doing has been with my own wardrobe and my own guys. My guy blew and everything was a different story till this time. It’s not easy, it’s the grace of God but right now these gigs come to me. I hardly reach out unless I like your talent and the collaboration would be nice.
WNG: It’s either grace or there’s always that one friend. If you’re not being creative with fabrics, what do you do?
StyledbyReus: I’m an image consultant, I might be called up for a work, someone might have an event and I’d be called to pick out clothes from their closet for them to have the right costume for the event. If I’m not working as a creative stylist, I’m working as a creative image consultant. I’m also a talent manager.
WNG: They all sound like really cool and fun jobs, what was your first styling gig like?
StyledbyReus: In this case I was very happy and eager to do the work and it was my first time of getting paid to do something I love, it was like a dream come true. It was fire in my head and I told myself to deal with the work with all my energy.
WNG: What is a day on set like?
StyledbyReus: I’m always extra serious, focused, I’m always on my game, I don’t take sh*t!
WNG: With a job like yours, a lot of seriousness is needed. If you could change anyone’s wardrobe, who would it be?
StyledbyReus: You
WNG: Wouldn’t I be lucky? When do I come for the swap? Lol. Creative tip?
StyledbyReus: Ask the right question. Become an expert. Be open and aware. Play and pretend. Generate lots of ideas. Fuse ideas. Choose the best ideas. Make something out of your great idea. Know your worth. Gain knowledge from people in your craft.
WNG: Trick question: What can be swallowed and also swallows?
StyledbyReus: Pride
WNG: Nope. It’s Water
StyledbyReus: No, no, no. Pride is among. If you don’t swallow your pride it will swallow you. I no fit gree.
WNG: It’s water, physical swallowing lol. Any big projects we should look forward to?
StyledbyReus: Undisclosed for now.
WNG: We’re looking forward to the big surprise. Thank you for your time Reus.
StyledbyReus: Thank you too.
