Economics was my least favourite subject in secondary school. Asides…
Listening to Fireboy’s LTG album and singing at the top of my lungs
Hey, faves. It’s been almost forever since I made a post here. When I say a lot has happened, I might be exaggerating a bit but almost losing my blog? abegi, that’s a whole lot. Long story short, my blog got suspended before I could renew it. I went from having a mini heart attack to sleepless nights and summarizing it with almost starting a gofundme account. Well, God came through in the form of humans, and I was able to renew the blog.
If you ask anyone, they would tell you how 2020 has been a whole lot! I saw this tweet about us deserving our bible after surviving these times. If this year has not tested your patience, then I envy you. The lockdown was when I had my first mental breakdown. I want to make a highlight of my 2020 so far and hope it inspires you to do so. I know it’s not the end of the year yet, but better now than when procrastination takes over me.
For the first time in all my years of identifying as human, I spent new year’s day without family. Many people do not know this, but I left Owerri for Minna on the 30th of December, 2019. If my mother had her ways, she would have gone with me. The journey wasn’t as stressful as the first time I went to Minna (did I make a blog post about that journey? It was the ghetto ratatatata! ). The best part of New Year’s Eve was getting kissed. It was on my 2019 bucket list. I was in a happy relationship in early 2020, a teacher in an all-boys school and a resident of Minna who knew nothing beyond “good morning” in Hausa. My first weekend out of Minna after three months had me avoiding getting the virus.
LOCKDOWN IN ABUJA
Everyone was getting to stay indoors with the love of their lives, and mine (remember Mr. X? ) chose the perfect time to say he’s done being with my fabulous self. Thankfully, I was with my amazing cousin/sestra in Abuja, and there was no need to “heal” from anything because there was a lot to do. Not in my entire 24 years on earth have I jogged and worked out as much as I did during the lockdown. We needed to keep fit and kept to all the guidelines. My birthday felt like a typical day because who wanted a party with the people-killing virus outside? I registered for an online creative class, which helped boost my creativity, especially on Instagram (thanks @salemkinging). I told so many stories and created my community on Mark Zuck’s streets. I also had amazing creatives on my blog show! People I never expected would even reply to a DM. My creativity game went up a hunnid, trust me.
The inter-state travel ban had us stuck in the same space until early August. Man! Was I happy to go home? I got the first bus to Owerri while bathing myself with hand sanitizer and choking behind the face mask.
Suppose anything moved so fast for me this year; it is my national service year. One minute I was in camp hating on everything and almost everybody, the next minute, I’m dropping my NYSC ID card to collect my certificate of service. Guess who had to do an entire self-directed photoshoot? This babe! Getting done with service almost had me worrying myself about a job, the future, money, but life is too short to be giving myself headaches abeg.
Thankful for this year? You have no idea. I had such a rough time in mid-2019, and I prayed for this year to be better. I also got a better relationship with God in September, and if you see me glowing, it’s the result of basking in His love and my new skincare routine, lol. I will make a post about the fantastic products I’ve been using, but before the, what are your top three highlights of 2020 so far?
