5 THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU’RE OVERWHELMED

The word “overwhelm” is positive but passes off a negative feeling. I had to check the dictionary severally to be able to really understand what the word means. When you’re overwhelmed, it’s the same as having emotions you can’t handle and this blog post is here to teach you the best way to treat such feeling.

I decided to do better with my content creation on Instagram, I went on a 7 days creativity challenge. I’d post 3 times on some days and other times I’d engage in over 20 people’s posts in one day. Naturally I get bored of things easily but this time I couldn’t stop going at it even when I was running out of ideas. I was too engrossed in the number of new people following me, in the new community I was growing that I started to loose myself. I even started reading this new book by Seth Godin “This Is Marketing”. I was going too hard at everything and I forgot my mental health. I’d even dream of my Instagram page sometimes 😂😂, that’s the feeling, yes I was overwhelmed by my growth. I couldn’t even breathe, I knew I needed to rest but I didn’t want to. I went from a 7 days challenge to 2 weeks of nonstop creating and one morning my brain had to shut down. It was my body’s way of saying “guy rest!!”.

Being overwhelmed comes with

-Mental Pressure

-Uncertainty

and when I decided to rest, I came up with some solutions for this. Here’s what to do when you feel too caught up in that anxiety or the pressure of a new job or the urge to want to surpass your expectations without breathing.

MAKE A LIST: The first day of June I had to call my self and my brain to order. I checked the posts that were getting better engagements and I made a content calendar. I had to re-strategize so I won’t get caught up in a brain web. So far, it’s been helping.

STAY IN THE PRESENT: 
For a second forget about the future position you want to attain and focus on NOW! Stop thinking of what it would look like if you do this or that, just do it, stay in the now, do you get?

BE KIND TO YOURSELF: If you’re hard on yourself, you won’t function well. Think about the one time you beat yourself up for a mistake you made, did it help fix it? Take things slow and if you’re on the right path it’d come to you. Just don’t beat yourself up for not achieving things at the same time with others. Okay?

TRY DE-STRESS TECHNIQUES: What works best for you, music? movies? exercising? going on a walk? I used to stress eat but that’s the worst way, sorry someone had to tell you. Take a break and watch your favorite tv show and have a good life and remember that before anything, you’re human!

TALK TO SOMEONE: We all have that friend who is a good listener or the one that understands your line of work. Talk to them and in return, listen to them talk too. It helps, sharing all that mental pressure with someone helps as long as they are mentally ready to take it in.

So yeah, it’s normal to feel the way you do! Totally normal but don’t forget who you are while trying to achieve all the things in the world. Your mental health is important.
